Singapore’s Businesses Embrace AI but Face Cybersecurity Risks
SINGAPORE, Dec. 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Singaporean enterprises are swiftly adopting digital transformation, particularly through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics tools. However, a recent survey by the global accounting organization CPA Australia indicates a concerning lag in cybersecurity maturity among these businesses. The annual Business Technology Survey revealed that 95% of Singaporean companies utilize data analytics and visualization software, slightly above the average of 93% globally. AI adoption is also robust, with 92% of businesses leveraging these technologies, surpassing the 89% average found in the survey. Nearly 20% of firms have deeply integrated AI into their operations, positioning Singapore as a leader in strategic AI implementation. Nonetheless, many organizations still engage in sporadic AI usage, as reported by 44% of respondents, typically employing accessible AI tools like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot.
Cybersecurity: A Critical Concern
Despite significant advancements in digital tools, the cybersecurity landscape in Singapore presents notable vulnerabilities. Only 23% of companies have fully woven cybersecurity into their operational strategies, falling short of the 28% global average. Moreover, 69% of businesses reported utilizing cybersecurity software, trailing behind the 81% average, raising alarms about potential risks as organizations broaden their digital operations. The survey further identified that 17% of firms adopt a reactive stance towards cyber threats, addressing issues only as they arise, while 11% lack clarity on their internal cybersecurity management, revealing significant governance and communication gaps. “As digital transformation accelerates, cybersecurity must be a strategic focus,” emphasized Mr. Unsworth. “With the rise of AI-driven threats such as advanced phishing and deepfake impersonation, businesses must enhance their cyber resilience to maintain trust in every digital interaction.”
AI Adoption Yields Benefits and Challenges
Survey participants noted substantial benefits stemming from AI integration. In the past year, Singaporean businesses have utilized technology to enhance workflows, automate mundane tasks, and improve decision-making speed and accuracy. These improvements have led to more satisfying employee experiences, with staff dedicating less time to routine activities and more to strategic tasks. Customer experiences have also benefited, as organizations leverage AI to offer more personalized and responsive services based on data insights. However, the growing reliance on AI raises issues surrounding human oversight and accountability, particularly in areas requiring ethical judgment. Job displacement in routine roles has been reported, and many companies continue facing challenges in merging AI with legacy systems. Cultural resistance to change, limited employee engagement, and a lack of trust and understanding regarding AI technologies further complicate adoption. Additional obstacles include high implementation costs, uncertain returns on investment, insufficient digital literacy among leadership, a scarcity of tech talent, and escalating concerns over data privacy and security.
The Path Forward with AI
Despite these challenges, AI remains a vital component for businesses aiming to retain a competitive edge. Daryl Pereira, a CPA Australia member and Director & Head of OCISO, APJ for Google Cloud, remarked, “AI’s transformative potential is immense, yet it should complement, not replace, human creativity. As businesses expedite AI adoption, they must intentionally cultivate and enhance critical human skills. This transition necessitates proactive leadership to redefine roles, revise workflows, and commit to ongoing education. By emphasizing upskilling and promoting collaboration across functions, organizations can sustain a competitive advantage and empower their teams to innovate responsibly.” As Singapore continues to lead in digital transformation, prioritizing cybersecurity maturity and fostering a culture of responsible innovation will enable businesses to fully harness AI and data to drive sustainable growth and enhance global competitiveness.
